Are you going to join the ROAR?

Today’s the day!

It’s finally arrived, the day of the first Autism One on One drop in session!  I’m excited, every great movement started small and grew over time and I assume this one will too, although rapid growth wouldn’t be a bad thing on this occasion.

So, what are my hopes and goals for the group?  I want Autism One on One to become a global phenomenon….no small dreams here!  I want it to become a place where people on the spectrum, related to someone on the spectrum, know someone on the spectrum or who is just interested to find out more can come along and learn, exchange ideas, talk through issues and generally feel comfortable in an environment that applauds autism and understands.  A place to feel free of the need to constantly have to pretend to be something you’re not because of the stigma surrounding the word ‘Autism’, a place that allows pride to be associated with the bran wiring that makes these wonderful people different.

And ultimately for the world to know that autism is what it is, just a part of what makes the whole person.  It doesn’t define them, it doesn’t describe them….it’s just a small part of what makes them……them.

Without the suffragettes there  be no women voting in this country and without a global movement autistic people won’t gain the recognition they deserve.  The more people that join, whether on the spectrum or not, the bigger the roar of unity towards a common cause.

Join us and let’s all ROAR together!

Oh yes, just to let you all know that I’ll be on Radio BBC Coventry and Warwickshire on the breakfast show tomorrow morning just after 7.00am talking about Special school v Mainstream.
