What’s your biggest ‘clock change’ cock-up?

Mother’s day and spare a thought for those serving your lunch!

Yes, it’s obvious I know.  Obvious but very current, after all, today is Mother’s day!  So what is Mother’s day?  Bit of a funny one really as it depends who’s perspective you’re writing it from.  If you’re the child then I guess it’s a day when you make your mum feel special and let her know that you appreciate her.  If you’re the mum then every day is Mother’s day, after all, motherhood is a truly full time job.

Please be nice to whoever is serving you today, they would love to be with their Mum’s too!

Sadly I don’t have a mum to pamper, she died 40 years ago so my life has been predominantly ‘motherless’.  Not that it’s been a problem in itself, just that I haven’t had the advantage of her advice and comfort over the years.  I’m assuming also that it would have been lovely to have had her support with the children as well, but you don’t miss what you’ve never had.

Over the last few weeks the children have been asking me what I want for Mother’s day and the truthful answer is that all I actually want is to know that they are aware that I’m very much there for them every day, and enjoy having their support when I need any time as well.  It’s not all about one day, I believe that a family should work as a team, whatever the family dynamics may be.  If everyone is looking out for everyone else life is less stressful and everyone feels buoyed by knowing they have unconditional support from those around them.

So, how do I feel about Mother’s day?  It’s just another day, I don’t need to made to feel special one day a year, I have children who make me feel special every day of the year and for that I am eternally grateful.

Confession time….who screwed up this morning?

And confession time, how many of you forgot the clocks went forward today and ended up being an hour late for something?  I happily admit that I’ve been guilty many times over the years and have learnt the hard way about the importance of being on the ball with changing clocks at bedtime!  Of course, technology has solved this to a degree with Smartphones etc…changing automatically but my trusty alarm clock doesn’t have the ‘magic’ inbuilt  so last night I made sure I changed it manually.

Of course, I’ve done it both ways.  I remember very clearly arriving at the Motor Show at Earls Court in my modelling days when I was working for Ford an hour early, much to the amusement of the security crew working the night shift which was yet to change.  This, of course, was in October when the clocks went back but better an hour early than an hour late! There was a period in my life where I always seemed to get it wrong and came to dread the twice yearly event that I knew for sure was going to cause unimaginable grief!

Do tell me your stories though, I’d love to hear about the disastrous, amusing or hilarious events that have turned your world upside down for a day.

And just a final note on Mother’s day.  All 5 of my eldest children are having to work today as they all work in hospitality and of course, it will be busy.  They’re all upset that they can therefore never spend Mother’s day with me so please spare a thought for the ones serving you your Mother’s day lunch, dinner, coffee etc…  They would like to be with their mums too, so please, be nice to them!
