Kacie’s Banana Blooper
If anyone thought that the shenanigans at the Mad Shanks Residence were over, I’m here to tell you they’re not. They’ve carried on unabated, I just haven’t been writing about them for a while.
Yesterdays episode however has spurred me to write more about them again, something hilarious happened that I thought couldn’t happen to anyone else but a Google search proved that this particular mishap, involving a banana, happens to a lot of people!
If you’re a regular reader you will know who Kacie is, my second eldest daughter, the fashion designer. As a fashion designer she is obviously very conscious of her style and a particular stressor for her is her hair.
Recently she’s noticed that her hair is breaking very easily and she wanted to do something about it, enter the hair mask.
She’d been hearing a lot about a banana and honey concoction that seems to be getting rave reviews and decided that she was going to try it. She mashed a banana, added some honey and excitedly trotted off to the bathroom to slap it all over her tresses.
She reappeared ten minutes later with a turban on looking very chuffed with herself that she was using a natural remedy on her hair and very excited to see the soft glowing locks that would emerge after. What could possibly go wrong?
I’d gone to bed while she let it do its work and I was also looking forward to seeing the results, as I’ve aged my hair has become very dry so I was hoping I might be able to achieve the same miracle myself.
Then the screams started. I shot up in bed worried that she’d hurt herself as she came bursting through the door with a towel wrapped around her head and a terrified look on her face. I have a admit I really couldn’t see what could go wrong with a banana and honey so to say that I was perplexed would an enormous understatement.
When she’d calmed down enough to talk and had stopped declaring that she was going to have to shave her head (?) she very gingerly removed the towel from her head. My eyesight isn’t brilliant so I was even more baffled that I could see nothing wrong (I was expecting to see that half of her hair had dropped out). She came closer and showed me the lumps of banana scattered liberally throughout her hair, no big deal I thought, what’s the problem?
She then invited me to try and get the lumps of banana out, when I tried I realised what she was talking about, the banana had the consistency of chewing gum! At this point I collapsed into an uncontrollable fit of the giggles, gasping for air. I asked her if she had followed the instructions, turns out, she hadn’t even searched for any instructions!

When I was finally able to talk again, I helpfully offered to Google how to get banana out of your hair thinking nothing would come up. Lo and behold, there were pages and pages of advice and YouTube videos galore showing how to remove it, she wasn’t the first person to experience this and I very much doubt she’ll be the last!
Apparently you are supposed to blend the mixture to a smooth paste without any lumps, Kacie’s offering was definitely not smooth and lump free, quite the opposite! The advice to remove it was to wash, apply conditioner and use a fine toothed comb to get the lumps out.
When I finally caught up with her on the subject a couple of days later it turns out that the hype is real! Her hair was left silky smooth and shiny.
I guess the moral in the tale is to do a little research about what you’re planning to do, even if it’s with something as innocuous as banana and honey! She’s going to do it again, properly next time, with beautifully creamy, blitzed banana, I’m tempted to try it myself!
