Passive Suicide Part 5: Paul McKenna

Last Friday I was admitted to hospital with a Diverticulitis flare up, a particularly painful condition that just makes you want to die! Not good when your thinking is already halfway there anyway. I was finally allowed to escape on Monday afternoon, still feeling bloody awful but my children had been right to make me go to A&E in the first place, even though I had been pissed off with them at the time!

I wanted to get out on Monday because I had paid to go to a Paul McKenna seminar in Birmingham and I was determined not to miss it, I’m looking for anything to work alongside the CFT work I’ve been doing and I really like Paul. As it turned out Lorie decided to get a ticket and come with me for which I was quietly very grateful, I still didn’t feel at all well and her company was very much appreciated.

She kept asking me what it was all about and I couldn’t actually tell her anything! I’d just seen it pop up on my screen and decided to book it, I hadn’t really looked into it too much but I assumed it was going to be a couple of hours of Paul standing on stage talking to us about his new book ‘The 3 things that will change your destiny’.

How wrong I was, and pleasantly so. It actually turned out to be 2 hours of actual strategies that he not only told us about, but got us all to practice right there and then as well! This was help that we could take home and practice in our own time with a copy of the book and access to all of the exercises on the website.

He taught us a 7 minute mindfulness/meditation session like no other I’ve ever done before, for the first time in my life I felt my brain expand and fall into a wonderful world of total relaxation and peace. I use it before I go to sleep and it gives me the most incredible sense of wellbeing and as I sleep badly at the best of times, this is extremely useful.

So many techniques, all brilliant, all so incredibly easy to use and all so effective. I came out feeling great and the feeling hasn’t worn off yet, long may it last but I will put into practice everything he taught to use alongside everything I’ve learnt in CFT.

So, am I NOW bouncing around ‘high five’ing’ everyone? No, but as least I feel as though I have a way forward now, a tiny light in the distance that I can focus on that allows me to have a glimmer of hope. I’m grateful for that.

Not everyone can get to spend an evening with someone like Paul McKenna (I am a particularly huge fan of his, he talks good honest, no nonsense sense), and I was lucky to spot the event and that it was affordable! Everyone can, however, buy the book and see if it, and the online tools help them, I can highly recommend it.
